Is a Bay Window For Me?

John called us from Acme.  He is looking for replacement windows.  During the discussion, he said he heard about bay and bow windows and wondered what they are.  Bay windows are a group of windows, three or more, that are built together, that can replace a large picture window.  They extend out from the exterior wall of the house and add living space.  You cannot use the space like an extra room but people that have bay windows place plants and other items in the bay window.  If you have a cat, the cat will claim the window as its favorite place.  Some bay windows are large enough that people sit in them on a heated seat board.

Bay windows usually have one picture window that’s parallel to the wall of the home, with two angled side windows to form the depth of the window.  A bow window is similar but is more curved.  Bay windows add architectural diversity to a house, allow more natural light and give the sense of more space in a room.

The Window Source of Western Michigan, headquartered in Traverse City, offers bay and bow windows.  If you have an existing bay window, a new one is usually a simple replacement.  If you want to add one, when we come out to quote your windows, we will need to determine if your construction is suitable for a bay window.

Give us a call and we can explore the possibilities.  231-946-3697
